Humble Beginnings

Mahonia first opened its doors to the NuLu neighborhood in Louisville, Kentucky, during March of 2016. What began as a tiny home + floral boutique, established by Bridget Davis, Mahonia soon sprouted with the support of the local community.

Today,  you’ll find us three doors down from our original location on East Market Street; a new, sprawling space, and an expanded team rooted in the same ethos welcome you. We are multiple facets: retail, floral, classes and events.

Retail

Entering Mahonia, you are greeted by scents that are simply soothing; the city is left behind, as you arrive within a plant-filled setting that is heartfelt. Thoughtfully placed home decor guides your path amongst accessories and gifts, that lead the way to creating your own oasis at home.

We offer a beautiful selection of flora in the form of indoor plants and fresh cut flowers. A portion of our retail space is dedicated to our Build Your Own Terrarium Bar, where guests are encouraged to gather and create. Our staff is always happy to help guide the process.

floral

Using the intersection of art and nature as our guide, our floral program presents design that is exciting, and unexpected.

Within our shop, blooms are available by the stem, in a colorful display on the retail floor. Floral arrangements can be tailored by our team; we welcome walk-in work, as well as preordered commissions that are available for pick up, or delivery

Mahonia Studio, located in the rear of our building, focuses on the production of original concepts for clientele. Event work, weddings, weekly accounts and residencies, as well as special orders are our specialty.

classes/event rental

To further share our love of plants, flowers, and the natural world, we offer a calendar of workshops and classes available to the public. Small group instruction, and private sessions can be accommodated for you and your friends by contacting us directly.

Our studio can be the perfect venue for your next affair. Warm, inviting, and multi-use, we’ve seen our space converted for many occasions - from private parties, baby showers and rehearsal dinners, to art shows, neighborhood meetings, and photoshoots - we look forward to hearing what your fete could be like!

Creative Director

Bridget Davis

Bridget developed a love and connection with nature at a young age. Growing up in Portland, Oregon, many of her childhood days were spent crafting bouquets and making wreaths from foraged blooms, and cuttings in the neighborhood.

Formative experiences working within flower shops, nurseries, and botanical gardens helped hone Bridget’s experience as a designer. With a refined vision, these events lead to the concept of Mahonia years later. In 2015 she began laying groundwork for a home + floral boutique in Louisville, Kentucky, that would become a hub for the community. Her goal: to provide access to beauty for all.
